There is a California Condor observatory and release center near (or possibly in) Pinnacles. The day we were hiking (Feb. 2, 2005) they were moving a few of the captured condors to a new facility. A ranger let us look through his monocular to see the condors in the distance.

This is my new favorite tree. Ashlee says it's a Manzanita tree.

The first time I saw a Manzanita tree, I thought someone had dripped hot wax down the outside of the bark. It's super cool that it's actually natural!
